It may be difficult to digest, but two different users have reported burn marks on the back plate of their GPU, and the RGB lighting from the RAM is reportedly to blame!

The firstreport onReddit, from almost a week ago, was concerning burn marks on theMSI RTX 3080GPU.

Under the thread, we had multiple users confirming witnessing the same pattern on their GPUs.

Three days later, another usertook toRedditand shared two photos as evidence of the burn marks on the same GPU,MSI RTX 3080.

In this case, too, many others came forward to corroborate things and share their experience.

The discoloration of the GPU’s back plate shows a similar pattern and is in line with what would be caused by RGB lighting from RAM modules. This appears to be due to a reaction between the RGB UV light and the coating used on the back plate.

Whatever the case, the reports so far are limited, although we expect an increase as more and more users minutely observe their GPU’s back plate for burn marks or discoloration. The good news is that the GPU’s functionality and performance performance hasn’t been affected!

Besides, it could just as well be due to a faulty batch of memory modules or GPUs with incomplete/improper coating. Because the majority of users withMSI RTX 3080haven’t reported any problems, indicating that the issue is not widespread.

If you are looking to replace it, we recommend youcheck if the current GPU shows signs of failure.
