Windows Share might be coming back to Microsoft Edge as the default option for sharing links, according to the findings of@Leopeva64, who discovered the capability in Edge Canary.

However, the tech enthusiast notes that this is just a test in Edge, for now, there is a chance Microsoft won’t release it to the stable channel.

This is just a TEST in Canary so there is a chance this change will never make it to the Stable version.
Windows Share was the Edge’s default link-sharing option until it was replacedwith another menu, back in 2021, almost 3 years ago. The tech enthusiast documented on Reddit, back then.
It would make sense that Microsoft wants to integrate Windows Share into Edge, again, as the sharing option supports more capabilities now in Windows 11, includinga game-changer QR code scan featurethat allows Windows users to easily transfer or share anything between their desktop and mobile devices.
At the same time, the Redmond-based tech giant is also updating Edge to support more intuitive options for users. And by intuitive, we mean Edge now has capabilities that make it more versatile and suitable for various browsing situations.
For instance, Edge is addinga mute buttonto the media controls menu, allowing users to easily manage between multiple tabs and mute the ones they want without pausing or closing them.
This could be interesting when watching live streams in Edge, while also doing something else. The tab displaying the live stream can be simply muted while reading information from other tabs, and when that is done, you can go back, unmute the tab, and continue watching the live stream.
The capability should be live in the stable channel in the next few weeks.
