Microsoft has quietly updated Windows 11’s Snipping Tool to support the detection of QR codes in screenshots, the addition of emojis inside these screenshots, and a brand-new HDR color corrector.

According to Windows enthusiast,@PhantomOfEarth, these new features will be coming soon to the app, most likely with the next Insider builds.

You’ll be able to place emojis on every part of the screenshot, and edit them to your needs: you can make them bigger, or smaller, and you can move them around.

Some new features/changes are coming to Snipping Tool soon. The recently introduced shape annotations feature will let you add emoji to your captures:pic.twitter.com/zdQEFUy0BH

With the QR code support, Snipping Tool will be able to detect QR codes, as the spotter says, not generate them. So, you won’t be able to generate QR codes to access the screenshot from your Android device, for instance, but that feature might be added in the future.

After all, the Redmond-based tech giant recently updated the tool to allow users to edit screenshots from Android devices byconnecting them to Windows 11.

Also, Snipping Tool will soon be able to detect QR codes in screenshots (notice the new button in the bottom right.)pic.twitter.com/eOyMf8yRc4

Ultimately, the HDR color corrector will correct the colors of the captures taken on HDR displays, allowing them to be darker. The new corrector is an optional feature that can enabled/disabled at will, and the changes might be instant.

There’s also a new HDR screenshot color corrector setting in app version 11.2403.8.0. (Not a hidden feature.)pic.twitter.com/pAh0qmuwJy

These new features were spotted this week, which is interesting, as many users claimedthe Snipping Tool is missing its ruler. Apparently, the Redmond-based tech giant removed it, but there is a way to get it back if you need it.

However, the solution might not be preferable to many, as it requires users to install an older version of Snipping Tool. So, say goodbye to the upcoming emojis, QR codes, and HDR color corrector.

If you still want to install an older version of Snipping Tool for the ruler, we have a guide on how toget the old Snipping Tool app backon Windows 11.

So, Snipping Tool is getting some useful features, while losing other useful features. Is this a win-win situation a la Microsoft?
