Windows 11 popularity is growing, as the operating system is quickly becoming the go-to operating system for gamers on Steam, surpassing the halfway mark among Windows users on the platform.
Specifically, 50.81% of Windows Steam users have adopted Windows 11, marking a significant 3.36% increase from the previous month. This shift comes at the expense of Windows 10, which decreased by 48.66%. Seeing such a rapid change is fascinating, especially considering Windows 10’s long-standing dominance.
The survey didn’t just stop at operating system usage; it delved into other aspects of gamers’ setups. For instance, 16 GB of RAM is the most common configuration among Steam users, with a 47.35% share. This is closely followed by 32 GB setups, highlighting a trend towards more powerful gaming rigs.
Additionally, the survey shed light on language preferences, revealing that Simplified Chinese has overtaken English as the most common language among Windows users on Steam.
Outside of the gaming community, Windows 11’s market share is steadily growing: In June,the operating system had a little under 30%; by August, it had surpassed that percentage, and it sits at 31,63%,according to the latest stats.
This transition to Windows 11 is noteworthy, especially as we inch closer to Windows 10’s retirement date in October 2025. However, the persistence of older operating systems like Windows 7 and 8.1, despite their lack of support, raises questions about the complete migration to newer versions.
The move to Windows 11 seems inevitable for gamers, but it’s clear that not everyone is ready to leave Windows 10 behind just yet.
