Good news for all Windows users who want to keep a closer eye on their device’s power and battery settings.

With the latest releaseto the Canary Insider Channel, Microsoft has added a new section within Settings’ Power&Battery area, called Power Modes, which offers a detailed view and new options to customize the way your device works when it’s plugged in or not.

According to popular@phantomofearth, who spotted the feature, you can optimize your device with different settings according to its state, as you can see in the picture below.

New in build 26252: the ability to set different power modes for your device for when it’s plugged in and when it’s on battery in Settings. (disabled by default, thanks@itstechbasedfor the 2nd screenshot.)vivetool /enable /id:39007349pic.twitter.com/bXwxTyh70v

The feature is currently hidden, but it can be enabled with a third-party app such as ViveTool. However, like most hidden features, it might be unreliable once enabled.

Either way, if you do want to enable it, then use this command (credits to @phantomofearth)

vivetool /enable /id:39007349

Windows already remembers separate power modes for when the device is plugged in or not, but the new area is a dedicated space where you have more control, and the settings appear simpler and clearer.

As with all Canary features, the new Power Mode section will be available to all Windows users as soon as Windows 24H2 is out.
