A leaked internal document suggestsDell is moving to Qualcomm’sSnapdragon Xas the processor choice for itsXPS 13 Pluslaptop. The company usedIntel Alder Lake-Pin the older model.
With this change, the DellXPS 13 Pluswill deliver almost double the battery life during local video playback, according toVideoCardz.
The leaked document compares the battery life during video playback of a local file and Netflix streaming both with the newSnapdragon Xprocessor and theIntel Alder Lake-P. I must say, the results look promising!
For local video playback, the battery life increases from15.45hours to29.6hours(up by 91%)with an FHD+ panel. Then, with a QHD+ panel, it increases from11.02to21.9hours(up by 98%). Similarly, with the OLED panel, you will see an increase from9.95hours to16.8hours(up by 68%).
Extended battery life and low cost are two of the primary selling points of the ARM-based QualcommSnapdragon X. For the unversed, ARM processors are popular power and cost-efficient alternatives to Intel and AMD chips.
Qualcomm, on its part, is claiming up to 25 hours of continuous use on a single charge with Snapdragon X. The company’s internal test results suggest40%longer battery life with Office 365 apps,58%for web browsing,89%for YouTube streaming, and100%for Teams video calls, when comparingSnapdragon X ElitewithIntel Core Ultra 7.
As for the cost, the leaked document reveals that the processor cost is about to go down by$148, from the earlier$293to just$145. A part of these savings, if transferred to the buyer, will save you a few bucks.
Dell is expected to launch theXPS 13 Pluslaptop for$1199, pitching it directly against Apple’sMacBook Air.
We have previously reported that theSnapdragon Xseries performs well when gaming and editing. So, running resource-intensive apps won’t be a problem.
Not to forget, theSnapdragon Xseries features an integratedQualcomm HexagonNPUchip. So, with the on-device AI, your PC is future ready!
If the results are accurate and the DellXPS 13 Plusbenefits from performance upgrades and reduced costs, theSnapdragon Xseries might find increased integration in more Dell laptops.
