The game development engine, Unity, is headed for significant developments in the latestUnity 6 Preview. Now available for download, the latest preview gives you a peek into the upcoming changes toUnity 6.
For the unversed, Unity has confirmed thatUnity 6 Previewwill be similar toTech Streamin terms of structure and will give you early access to new and updated features.
Amongst the wide array of upgrades, the two that will deliver an improved experience are performance enhancements and support for ARM-based Windows devices.
WithUnity 6 Preview, you don’t just get faster production and rendering, but also lower CPU workload. The latest iteration boasts a30–50%reduction in CPU workload, allowing you to simultaneously work on different programs.
The next in line, support for ARM-based devices, is another key improvement to the game engine, expanding its usability across devices. With this upgrade, you can start creating Unity games on ARM-based Windows devices, often preferred for their low power requirement and better performance.
Windows on ARM-powered devicesoffers several key benefits, including reduced power consumption, compact design, and higher performance. Even Microsoft’sAI Explorer runs only on ARM-based devicesand not on Intel and AMD chips.
While it’s not officially confirmed by Unity, reports suggest thatUnity 6 Previewwill augment game development for mobile phones, given that smartphones more commonly ship with an ARM chip. That’s good news for all game developers out there!
Another improvement in the latest iteration that we found worth mentioning is the introduction ofArtificial IntelligencewithUnity Sentis. It’s a neural engine used for the integration of AI models into the runtime.
