Microsoft recently released a sixth edition of their Cyber Signals, a cyber threat intelligence brief. The company shares its research results and insights about the current threats through it. This edition highlights the importance of securing AI to prevent state-sponsored cyber criminals from misusing it.

Cyber threats are becoming more frequent for various reasons, such as AI and technological advancements. Also, tech companies like Microsoft focus on AI development and features instead of improvingtheir security systems.

As a result, threat actors are more active and keep finding ways to exploit vulnerabilities. Thus, we have to seek proactive measures to defend our data.

How are hackers using AI?

How are hackers using AI?

According to the latestCyber Signals brief, hackers use large language models (LLMs) to enhance their capabilities. For example, they generate more accurate phishing emails, better code, and deep fakes. Also, recently, some researchers created anAI wormthat bypasses security systems.

Both attackers and defenders are using AI. So, Microsoft plans to convince AI providers to start sharing their information and be transparent about their security-related findings.

Microsoft states in the Cyber Signals report that they target specific threats such as Advanced Persistent Threats, Manipulators, and Cybercriminal Syndicates.

In addition, the company discovers more than 65 trillion cyber security signals daily. Microsoft uses various AI methods like threat detectors, behavioral analytics, and machine learning to find cyber threats. On top of that, cyber security experts use Zero Trust Models because they need constant verification.

Based on the Cyber Signals report, Microsoft uses AI to detect fake identities and social engineering. On top of that, experts use Copilot to enhance security by helping engineers and analysts work faster and more efficiently.

Due to the lack of cybersecurity experts, we need to learn how to identify cyber threats. After all, hackers started using AI in simple but effective ways that don’t require bypassing complex security systems. Also, according to Microsoft, public awareness campaigns are the fastest way to educate us.

Ultimately, the Cyber Signals report from Microsoft provides many insights about threats, malicious groups likeForest Blizzard, and AI technologies. Also, it showcases the importance of cyber threat awareness and how AI could help us deal with attacks. Thus, consider reading it because it won’t take long.
