SharePoint will be updated to support the newer Made for Email template as the platform’s default one, starting in May 2024.

According to the latest entry inthe Microsoft 365 Roadmap, the reception to the Made for Email template has been positive, and this prompted Microsoft to turn it into the default template, replacing the News Posts.

However, the News Posts will not be entirely gone. Instead, you can still create them in any way you want, and you can even copy existing posts and turn them into News Posts. The good thing is that now, due to the new policy, they will be treated through the Made for Email template, effectively giving them additional settings, while keeping their existing ones.

Even more, every News Post user creates will have all the Made for Emails capabilities that can be used to customize and send the post further.

Here’s what the entry says:

Following the positive reception of the “Made for Email” News templates, we are rolling out a change that will make every news post you create “Made for Email” by default. Now, no matter how you create your new News Post, whether it is copying a previous post or using an existing template, you will have access to send that full distribution as an email. With this change, authors will still have access to our full webpart library by selecting “all” webparts in the webpart picker but are defaulted into having additional sending functionality.

Aside from making the Made for Email template the default one, SharePoint will also be updated to supporta reporting modecapable of keeping track of a 180-day history of all changes.

This way, IT admins and managers will be able to create custom reports that can be used to strengthen security, and privacy and even plan actions for when issues such as cyberthreats are happening.
