Microsoft is at the forefront of the AI revolution, integrating artificial intelligence into native tools and products. The release ofCopilot, Microsoft’s AI chatbot, provided a much-needed boost. Now, in an effort to cement its position as the market leader, Microsoft has set a target to acquire 1.8 million AI chips by the end of the year.

First reported byBusiness Insider, acquiring more chips will allow Microsoft to make its AI offerings better, faster, and cheaper. Microsoft aims to triple the number of GPUs in 2024, with NVIDIA as the primary source!

The Redmond-based tech giant also plans to invest roughly $100 billion in GPUs and data centers by 2027 to ramp up the existing infrastructure.

Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAIalso augments its AI push, thoughsome employees have expressed concerns.

It remains to be seen whether NVIDIA will be able to fulfil Microsoft’s AI chip requirements. However, with its competitors making strides in the space, NVIDIA isn’t the only option now!

DuringVision 2024,Intel released itsGaudi 3AI accelerator, which the company claims delivers40%higher power efficiency thanNVIDIA H100, a chip crucial to Meta’s AI plans.

Microsoft is also bringing AI to manufacturing, helping industries streamline the process and increase profits.
