Nintendo 64 was one of the most popular consoles in the late 90’s with many memorable games, and many gamers can experience those titles on PC thanks to the emulation.
It seems that emulation won’t be necessary anymore as enthusiasts have found a way to recompile the games and run them natively on the PC.
The latest project allows you to run Nintendo 64 games natively on a PC
AsTom’s Hardware writes, Mr-Wiseguy on GitHub has developed a tool calledN64Recompthat allows you to port almost any Nintendo 64 game to a PC, and run it natively.
The same user also released theZelda64Recompproject, which brings The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask to the PC.
So why is this important? By recompiling the games, you can run them natively on your PC, without having to use an emulator.
This allows games to maximize performance and effect accuracy of the original consoles while experiencing the same benefits that come with PC emulation.
My friend Wiseguy’s been working in secret for a year on a tool to make PC ports of N64 games without complete decompilations. The result doesn’t include assets and only requires a ROM to play. He’s managed to run games like Banjo-Kazooie, Rocket Robot and even Superman 64.pic.twitter.com/sKGuViEsJZ
N64 Recompiled uses RT64 as a renderer, allowing you to experience enhancements such as higher resolution, widescreen support, and 60+ FPS.
This tool is perfect because manually decompiling games is a long and tedious process, and this tool manages to fully automate it, Mr-Wiseguy has tested it with multiple titles.
We still don’t know how Nintendo will respond to this, but we do know that the latest leaked information claims thatSwitch 2 will have 8GB of RAM and an 8-inch display.
There are also rumors thatSwitch 2 will be backward compatible, so you can continue playing your favorite games.
