Mozilla announced that Firefox Nightly isnow available for Linux on ARM64. This means users can now download the Firefox browser as binary for ARM64 (AArch64) architecture on Linux.
When Mozilla launched the Firefox Nightly .deb packages, users demanded the same for ARM64 builds. Users can access the Firefox browser as both .tar archives and .deb packages depending on their installation requirements and liking.
If you favor the traditional way, you can access the .tar.bz2 binaries on theMozilla downloads page. To do so, you need to select the option that saysFirefox NightlyforLinux ARM64/AArch64.
Whereas, for updates and installation via Mozilla’s APT repository you canfollow instructionsto install thefirefox-nightlypackage.
It is worth noting that Mozilla has been quite transparent about the stabilization and development of the ARM64 builds. In a recent announcement post, Mozilla mentioned:
Although we are confident in the quality of Firefox on this architecture, we are still incorporating comprehensive ARM64 testing into Firefox’s continuous integration and release pipeline. Our goal is to integrate ARM64 builds into Firefox’s extensive automated test suite, which will enable us to offer this architecture across the beta, release, and ESR channels.
Mozilla encourages users to download, test, and provide feedback about the new ARM64 Firefox Nightly binaries. If you find any bugs or issues while testing Firefox Nighty on ARM64, report it toMozilla’s Bugzilla.
Doing this will aid the development process and ensure the final stable release for the ARM64 users. More recently, Mozillastrengthened security with untrusted integrityin Firefox Nightly on Windows.
