Not long ago, Microsoftannouncedthat they will bring more and more games to other platforms, including PlayStation and Nintendo, and the numbers are starting to add up. Apparently, the Redmond giant had their eyes on the potential success ofSea of Thieves on PS5to see if their strategy is paying off.
Now, we’ve got the sales numbers for April top 20 best selling games from the Circana research firm, Mat Piscatella, who posted the results on hisX account.

What can the numbers tell us about multi-platform game strategies?
The results are ranked by sales numbers from April 7 to May 4 in the U.S., and we can see that Sea of Thieves in fourth place, closely followed by Fallout 4. Grounded, which was also ported to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch on April 16 gained a lot of ground quickly, getting the 12th place on this list.
We expectedbig numbers for the Fallout seriesdue to the recent Amazon Prime show launch. However, if we look at the top places, we find Sony’s Stellar Blade and Helldivers II. While Helldivers II was launched on PC and even had anice promotional price on Steam, there’s no word about launching Stellar Blade on PC.
Sony’s recent announcement of a new strategy toport more top titles to PCis a significant shift in the gaming market. While this move is expected to boost game sales, Sony’s plan to release exclusive sequels for these titles on PS5 later on is a clear indication of their broader market strategy.
We’re not sure what the outcome will be, but this doesn’t seem to be a console war, at least not for Microsoft.Console sales are going down, so Microsoft’s strategy of bringing its games to all platforms makes a lot more sense.
As we’ve said before, the gamers are ultimately the ones who will decide how this will play out, and we’ll be here to report further developments. If you want to talk about this, hit the comments section below.
