In a surprising turn of events, Microsoft has decided that it’s time to give Teams webinar organizers even more control over their projects, by allowing them to stop attendees from sharing their webinars on social media.
The new option will be released in June 2024, and it will impact Teams on all platforms, including Web, Desktop, and Mac versions, according to the latest entry in theMicrosoft 365 Roadmap.
Disable the ability for attendees to share the webinar event page to social networking sites for public events post-registration.
While I don’t know which webinar organizer would want to stop participants from sharing their webinar on social media, something that would automatically give the webinar more exposure, thus possibly other participants, it’s good that Microsoft Teams allows them to have the option, at least.
Truth is, the option is useful in corporate situations to control possible exposure to a private corporate webinar.
The Redmond-based tech giant is releasing a bunch of similar features aimed at organizers and presenters. For example, Microsoft Teams will allowwebinar organizers to blockthe sending of attendee emails, which the platform usually does every time someone sets up a webinar, as a way to remind participants to attend.
The platform will also be updated to supporta private chat channelfor organizers and presenters in Microsoft Teams webinars. This update, slated for release in June, is a way to privately chat about the management of the webinar without participants knowing what’s going on.
These features will all give greater control to organizers to set up their webinars as they want, without having to worry about annoying future participants with too many emails, or even creating a bigger event than it should be.
In many ways, with these features Teams will become a preferred platform for webinar hosting, since the experience of attending one on the platform can be highly customized.
