Microsoft Teams and Zoom, arguably two of the world’s biggest video-calling platforms will be joining forces to allow Teams users to hop on Zoom meetings with an ID and a passcode.
According to the latest entry in theMicrosoft 365 Roadmap, Microsoft will update Teams to allow Teams Rooms on Android to join Zoom meetings. However, the feature will only be available to users with a Pro license and the room must be set up to support Direct Guest Join meetings, first.
Here’s what the entry says:
Teams Rooms on Android can now join Zoom meetings with an ID and a passcode. This feature is only available with the Teams Rooms Pro license and your room must be configured to enable Direct Guest Join meetings.
To enable Direct Guest Join meetings, IT admins and managers can followthis comprehensive guide made by Microsoft, especially for these kinds of scenarios.
The capability will be added to Microsoft Teams in June 2024, and it will make accessing cross-platform video calls easier for those organizations using different platforms. This integration will feel as natural as being on Microsoft Teams, says the company:
Microsoft Teams Rooms devices support a one-touch experience for joining third-party online meetings, also referred to as Direct Guest Join. When enabled, you can use Teams Rooms to join meetings hosted on Cisco Webex and Zoom just as easily as you can join meetings hosted in Microsoft Teams. Keep in mind that in this case, the experience in Teams Rooms of the third-party online meeting is driven by the third-party online meeting provider.
At the same time, Zoom can be considered an external host, Microsoft will be updating the platform to allow managersto prevent users from sharing content on externally hosted meetings.
The feature will be introduced in May, a month earlier than the Zoom-Teams integration, and it could be a way to let managers get used to the new policy before implementing it in such meetings.
