Last week, when Microsoft rolled outKB5037765, many admins using PCs that didn’t have theEnglish (United States)language pack downloaded reported getting a0x800f0982update error. At the time, Microsoft quickly acknowledged the bug and confirmed that a patch should soon be released. It’s finally here!
The latest Windows release,KB5039705,addresses this particular bug. Therelease notesfor the update read,
Given that it’s anOut-of-band (OOB)update, there are no other enhancements or features except the patch. Microsoft recommends that you install it right away and restart the PC for the changes to come into effect. Then, you should be able to install the May’24 security patches,KB5037765, without getting the0x800f0982update error.
