There’s a rumor going around that Microsoft is planning to purchase Valve, and it seems that many are buying into it.

What started this rumor and is there any truth to it? Keep on reading to find out!

Microsoft isn’t buying Valve, and here’s why

Microsoft isn’t buying Valve, and here’s why

A few months ago, Microsoft acquired Activision, and just recentlyMicrosoft’s Activision opened a new Elsewhere Entertainment studio, so it is no surprise that Microsoft might want to acquire another major developer.

As80 Level reports, there has been a rumor floating around that Microsoft is planning to buy Valve for $16 billion.

This was first started by an X user xDiorCS, and the rumor was picked up by YouTubers and media outlets without fact-checking it.

With approx. $80b CCE, Microsoft is preparing an offer of $16b for ValveNo stock, all cashpic.twitter.com/VCZq6HkFmO

Even X added a note stating that this hasn’t been confirmed officially in any way and xDiorCS provided zero evidence to this claim.  Lastly, $16 billion is too low for such a major company as Valve.

As for the origin of this rumor, there were leaked documents during the FTC and Microsoft trial that state that the Microsoft board is supportive of buying Valve or Nintendo.

In Aug. 2020 Phil Spencer mulled prospects of buying Nintendo (or Valve), said Microsoft’s board “are fully supportive on either if opportunity arises"Thought outside investment in N might create more opportunity for MS, but “I don’t think a hostile action would be a good move"pic.twitter.com/nHqQ5mxHbn

These rumors caught the eye of Tom Warren, an industry insider who confirmed that there’s no substance to these claims and that Microsoft has no plans to purchase Valve.

I can’t believe I have to say this but of course Microsoft isn’t “preparing an offer of $16 billion for Valve.” Giving blue ticks to everyone was bad idea ?

So there you have it, Valve isn’t going anywhere, so you can rest assured that Steam will remain free from Microsoft’s influence.

If you’re looking for more rumors, theXbox Game Pass price might go up soon, and this is already being discussed at Microsoft, so stay tuned for more information.
