It seems that the Redmond-based tech giant is bent on bringing AI to the gaming industry, as it confirmed toThe Vergethat it’s currently working on an AI model, called Xbox AI chatbot, that is capable of dealing with customer support and game refunds.

The Xbox AI chatbox would be a sort of character that will interact with Xbox users on a variety of issues, and will automatically support them in solving the issues they might have. Reportedly, this chatbox would also be the first of a larger process to implement AI models into Xbox’s services and platforms.

Microsoft says the Xbox AI chatbox is connected to support documents and it can interact with Xbox users via text or voice messages. The issues it can solve range from broken Xbox consoles to issues with the Game Pass subscriptions.

Given how much focus the Redmond-based tech giant has put into AI over the last couple of years, it is no wonder that the Xbox platforms would eventually get an AI assistant. However, Microsoft is not calling it Copilot for Xbox, but apparently, the company will build several Copilots for the Xbox services and platforms with the plan of releasing them in the next months to years.

We’re talking about Copilots for security and privacy settings, other Copilots for content moderation, and even assistance when gaming: so if you’re lost in a game, and don’t know what to do, Copilot will be there to help you figure it out.

Ultimately, the Xbox AI chatbot could be renamed Copilot for customer support, as Microsoft has been renaming its old AI tools to Copilot, before, as in the case ofBing AI.

While in some cases, AI would be useful, as long as it gets the job done, we cannot stop but thinking about the possibility of it being hacked, and the damage such actions would impact Xbox, and Xbox users. Then, we also have to put into perspective the possibility of gaming assistance from AI: where would the thrill of gaming be?

I hope Microsoft is taking into consideration these points and will integrate Copilot on Xbox as an option, at least when it comes to gaming assistance, so players can have a possibility to solve the game on their own first.
