As surprising as it is, Microsoft got theWindows Server Preview Build 26212update name wrong, and it was rolled out without anyone noticing. On devices, the update package reads,Windows 11 Insider Preview 26040.1000 (rs_prerelease).

The issue was acknowledged in anofficial posthighlighting the improvements onWindows Server Preview Build 26212byStacey Clements, a Microsoft employee. The confirmation read,

The mistake on Microsoft’s part raises many questions about the initial checks in place, especially at a time when the Redmond-based tech giant is receiving a lot of criticism for releasing buggy updates. Some even attribute buggy updates to thecontinued fall in Windows 11’s market share.

Thankfully, this time around, only the update’s name was overlooked, and it isn’t causing any serious issues after installation, as per the initial reports. Besides, Microsoft has confirmed that the mistake will be rectified in future releases!
