Back in April, we reported about a8KBMicrosoft chat provider for Copilot in Windowsinstallation in Windows Server. And as it turned out, that was an Edge component that actually installed the tiny tool on all the Windows systems. With Edge 124,Microsoft removed it from Windows Serverand now, it’s Windows 10’s and 11’s turns.
The app was not dangerous as they mentioned; it was not meant to collect your data secretly or carry out activities in the background that you did not give permission for.
How do I get rid of the Copilot 8KB component?
To make this app totally out of your hair, you must update the Edge browser to the latest version released, which isEdge 126, which was just launched. And, as an additional precautionary measure, maybe restart your computer quickly after the update. Here’s the solution as presented by Microsoft:
Resolution:This issue is now resolved with Edge browser updates released on April 26, 2024, and June 13, 2024. Edge version 124.0.2478.67 was released on April 26 and removed the package ‘Microsoft chat provider for Copilot in Windows’ from all servers affected by this issue. Edge version 126.0.2592.56 was released on June 13, 2024, and removed the same package from all Windows client versions affected by this issue. The ‘Microsoft Copilot’ entry will not show in the Installed apps list in the Settings menu once the Edge browser is updated.
So, the Redmond giant has declared this issue as resolved. However, if the app is feeling like playing hide and seek, bring it to the comments below and to the Feedback Hub.
