For Windows 10 users, Microsoft has released a new non-security update, KB5039299, which fixes bugs linked to the taskbar and jump lists, including the Open with issue. This update is applicable for Windows 10, version 22H2.
When you right-click on an app in your taskbar, it shows an “Open with” dialog instead of what should be there—a context menu. This issue could affect any app that has tasks on a context menu.
Moreover, the update also fixes an issue related to jump lists in the taskbar. Microsoft explains that “completing actions from that list might fail.” A jump list is a menu that pops up when you right-click an application icon in either your taskbar or start menu.” It gives you quick access to recently or frequently used app items.”
This issue was resolved in updates released June 25, 2024 () and later. We recommend you install the latest security update for your device. It contains important improvements and issue resolutions, including this one.
Additionally,the update fixes a problemrelated to the taskbar. If you have positioned your taskbar somewhere other than its default location, there could be an issue with it. Furthermore, Microsoft has resolved another problem related to Microsoft Connected Cache. Nonetheless, they acknowledge that some recognized problems are still present.
As we reported earlier this month, one problem that is still being worked on is that you can’t change the profile picture for local accounts. These are the other known problems which have not yet been fixed:
Microsoft states that solutions for these problems will come with upcoming updates, except the 0x80070643 mistake which necessitates handling it manually.
KB5039299is available for download through Windows Settings. You can find it by going to Windows Update and downloading the optional updates listed there. Another way to get this update is from the Microsoft Update Catalog, where it can be installed manually.
