Seems as if Microsoft is exploring a possibility of integrating Windows 11/10’s built-in Energy saver with Edge Efficiency mode toboost device battery life. This feature is being tested in Edge Canary channel. If you are using a laptop for browsing with multiple open tabs, watching videos, and playing games, the battery may run out quickly. To address this, Microsoft Edge browser offers Efficiency mode.
Edge Efficiency modetakes battery optimization a step further when activated. It focuses specifically on web browsing efficiency by reducing background tab activity, puttinginactive tabs to sleep, and potentially adjustingvideo playback smoothnessfor additional savings.
Similar to Edge Efficiency Mode,Windows 11 already comes equipped with the Energy Saver mode designed to extend battery life. When enabled, Energy Saver reduces system performance and limits certain background activities to conserve power.
The new feature under development in Edge Canary suggests Microsoft is working on a way to intelligently connect these two battery-saving options. Here’s what we might see:
If Energy Saver is available on your Windows 11 device but not enabled, Edge might prompt you to activate it for optimal battery savings.
When Energy Saver is already turned on, Edge might inform you that Windows 11’s power-saving features are already in effect. We found Microsoft is testing an Edge feature that may improve battery life hidden behind these three flags:msEdgeSyncEfficiencyModeWithWindowsEnergySaver: This flag likely controls whether Edge attempts to synchronize its Efficiency mode with Windows Energy Saver settings.
msEdgeWindowsEnergySaverAvailable: This flag might indicate whether Edge detects that Windows Energy Saver is available on your system.
msEdgeWindowsEnergySaverActivatedTrigger: This flag could be responsible for triggering notifications based on the status of Windows Energy Saver (enabled or disabled).Overall, this new integration between Microsoft Edge and Windows 11 Energy Saver looks promising for laptop users. By working together, these features could help you maximize your battery life and enjoy uninterrupted browsing for longer. Please note: This information is based on features under development in the Edge canary channel and may not reflect the final implementation details.
