Microsoft Edge has been grabbing attention within the constantly changing universe of web browsers – although not all for positive reasons. Lately, the tech giant has desired to detach from a characteristic previously highlighted as groundbreaking.
According to@Leopeva64, a famous tech enthusiast, the function “Follow this creator,” which allows users to monitor their preferred content creators directly from the browser, is slowly being removed from Microsoft Edge. If you wonder why, then the reason is that this feature was not working correctly.
The toggle’s title and description for the “Collections” feature have been updated in Edge Canary, Microsoft has removed all references to the “Follow creator” feature:https://t.co/2Si8jl65gapic.twitter.com/AQQ1aMAzFE
It sent all URLs of every webpage you visited directly to Bing, causing big privacy worries. Just picture it – every single site you go to, from those secret blogs you read to the late-night shopping trips, is being monitored! Not exactly what you signed up for, right?
The answer is quick and clear. Microsoft will slowly remove the “Follow this creator” feature from Edge. If you have been using Edge recently, maybe you observed that the Collections tab where this function was located no longer provides a follow creator choice. On the other hand, Microsoft guides users in making collections similar to video playlists, reading lists, or wishlists. It’s a more secure and personal method for managing content.
This choice wasn’t sudden. The Vergeinitially brought attention to the security gap, examining how Edge manages user data. It was discovered that the browser unintentionally sent URLs to Bing’s API, which was a bug set as activated by default. This wasn’t a deliberate attempt to spy on users but rather a badly executed feature that went wrong.
This has created much discussion in the tech community, with people who love browsers and those concerned about privacy sharing their views on social media like X (previously known as Twitter). It is evident that Microsoft takes note of feedback and shows readiness to make daring alterations for safeguarding user’s privacy.
If you want to keep up with creators who interest you, it could be a good idea to try other ways where you have more power over your data.
