If you love playing around with Python code in Excel, then you should know that Microsoft released the Python Editor, which is merged directly into the platform. The new tool has the potential to turn Excel into a strong data analysis system.

The story ofMicrosoft and Python in Excelstarts with an experiment add-in from Excel Labs, introduced in September 2023. The Python Editor was integrated into Excel itself, and its user interface stays close to Excel’s initial design.

Accessing it is also quite easy: just click on the Formulas tab, and you will see the new Editor icon there. With a click, you’re ready to start coding.

According to the official blog post, the Python Editor sees every cell as a code cell in a Jupyter notebook. You can edit and execute Python code within Excel, getting results that show up nicely in your spreadsheet. It does not matter if they are plain text, number-based responses, or even visualizations like graphs and tables from DataFrames.

This function is a game-changer, bringing Intellisense, colorization, and function help to make coding in Excel easy. No worries if you’re not in the Insider program. The Python Editor continues to be accessible as an add-in through Excel Labs, so everyone is included.

Even though no official announcement has been made about when this feature will be released for all Windows users, support for Python in Excel has been available to different user groups since June, which shows a big move towards making Excel more flexible for data analysis.

Incorporating Python into Excel offers numerous chances to automate tasks, scrutinize data, and form intricate models within your spreadsheets, and the new Python Editor will make the platform an irreplaceable tool for professionals in different industries.
