Microsoft adds tools to Copilot Studio to allow developers to build assistants for their businesses

At theMicrosoft Build 2024 conference, the Redmond-based tech giant announced that it will add tools to Copilot Studio to give developers the chance to build generative AI assistants for a variety of contexts. These generative AI assistants can be used to assist users in their businesses, for example.

These new capabilities will allow users to delegate authority to Copilot to automate long-running business processes, reason over actions and user inputs, leverage memory and knowledge for context, learn based on user feedback and exception requests and ask for help when it encounters situations that it doesn’t know how to handle.

Along with these tools, developers who build AI assistants for Microsoft 365 can also make them available to others through Copilot Studio.

Copilot extensions built with Copilot Studio will allow developers to customize copilots with instructions, knowledge from data sources and actions from plugins, Microsoft Power Automate flows and more. They will be simple to build and will enable extensibility and customization for specific domains or personas, such as expense reporting or employee onboarding, enabling a more relevant and personalized copilot experience.

The Redmond-based tech giant will help developers release their AI assistants, also called Copilot extensions, to a variety of app stores in Outlook, Teams, and more.

Copilot Studio will also introduce Copilot connectors that will allow developers to access other platforms, such Microsoft Graph, or Power Platform directly from there.

Copilot connectors in Copilot Studio, in preview, will bring together Microsoft Graph and Power Platform connectors, AI skills in Microsoft Fabric (in private preview) and Microsoft Dataverse to make the process of grounding copilots in first- and third-party line-of-business data a wizard-based experience configured through Copilot Studio. This will enable developers to quickly incorporate their organizational knowledge into copilots, enable new actions and add real-time intelligent Q&A over productivity, operational and analytical data.

Finally, Microsoft will add templates to Copilot Studio so that developers can quickly start to work on projects without having to waste time building them from scratch.

All these tools coming to Copilot Studio will be available soon, although no specific date has been given yet. Either way, developers will enjoy the new tools, as they will greatly enhance workflows and productivity all around.

Speaking of Copilot, the Redmond-based tech giant also announcedTeam Copilot, which as its name suggests, is an assistant on its own, and Microsoft’s take on Google’s AI Teammate.
