There could be a new button called Recommended coming to Windows 11’s taskbar soon, according to the latest findings of the Windows enthusiast,Albacore, who spotted it. The new button currently has the icon of a globe, and it could be used as a central point for the Start menu’s current Recommended section.
A new button is coming to the Windows 11 Taskbar right alongside system ones like Task View, Widgets, etc. It’s called “Recommended” & has all strings stripped from production, guess the UI team doesn’t want people to know. For now, the button doesn’t do anything when enabled, and it’s not functional, according to the Windows enthusiast only the Settings page recognizes it, as it doesn’t appear in the Windows 11 taskbar at all.
As of right now, only the Settings framework is aware of this setting (backed by HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\ShowRecommendations) As of right now Taskbar.View.dll contains no trace of the new functionality, will keep an eye on future betas
The new Recommended button can be bad news for those Windows 11 users who hope Microsoft won’t blast any new ad space to the operating system, because, according to the Windows enthusiast, it might end up being a new section that contains ads.
Lowkey hoping that this is just a piece of unfinished (and never to be finished) work from Mikhail’s brief reign over Windows. Fingers crossed we aren’t getting more ad surfaces.
However, since it’s not functional, Microsoft might not add it. The Windows enthusiast spotted the button on a channel within the Windows Insider Program, and these channels are known for displaying experimental features that might not make it to the stable channel. But that doesn’t mean the Redmond-based tech giant will abandon the idea.
With this being said, the latest button added to the Windows 11 taskbar was none other than the Copilot, for which Microsoft is also releasinga special key, which is expected to ship with thenew AI PC laptopsthese months.
For now, Copilot is still in trials and tribulations, as Windows users are not fond of it, accordingto our survey.
