Have you ever experienced a situation where you right-click on an app icon, but instead of displaying the normal list of options, a peculiar “Open With” dialogue box appears in Windows 10?
If this has happened to you and your system is running the operating system with recent updates installed, rest assured that it’s not just happening to you. This peculiar issue is tied to theKB5036979andKB5037768updates for versions 22H2 and 21H2 of Windows 10, impacting users utilizing the New Teams and New Outlook.
Microsoft hasrecognized this bug. It appears to happen after the previous updates, resulting in a small issue where users face difficulty accessing the right-click context menu for these applications from the Start menu or Taskbar.
When attempting to right-click on the New Teams or New Outlook icons, it is similar to expecting options such as “Open,” “Run as administrator,” or “Unpin from the taskbar.”
Instead, you are asked how you want to open this file. It is like planning to make a swift coffee, and your coffee machine now inquires which beans you want to plant. Microsoft’s Windows health dashboard has verified this problem, stating that it is not only limited to these apps but possibly impacts others.
The relief? Microsoft is handling it. They suggest a temporary solution that requires you to manually move across the application’s interface to accomplish desired tasks, which feels similar to taking the scenic route back home. But hey, there is a path! They also assure a resolution in the next release, so hope is finally visible.
The good news is that the necessary fix has already been identified and prepared and will ship in a future update for Windows 10 22H2 soon.
For Teams users, there’s a little more help. Corbin Meek, a Senior Supportability Program Manager for Teams and Skype for Business at Microsoft, has offered advice on how to solve problems with Teams. It gives some comfort: the issue isn’t very big, but still annoying.
