Google is reportedly refreshing the default font for ChromeOS. You might be aware that Roboto is currently the default font for the operating system. However, this is set to change soon.
Not to forget, Google previously let ChromeOS users change the default Roboto font to their liking. However, the company gradually pulled the option over the years. At present, the Chrome browser with a built-in setting only lets you change the default font.
Google Sans could be the default font for ChromeOS soon
Now, it seems Google is shifting towards a different font for ChromeOS. As per the newly discovered codes,Google Sans could be ChromeOS’s new default font. The change is likely to align the UI elements with Google’s Material 3 guidelines.
Google Sans will reportedly appear as the default font on ChromeOS, version 126 coming this June. Since there’s no flag for the same, you could see the new default font right after the update.
Well, this isn’t the first time the tech giant has opted for Google Sans as the default font. In fact, it is the default in many locations and was among the list of font options that you could make default.
Although the company is bringing Google Sans as default, it may not be applicable everywhere in ChromeOS UI. The soon-to-be default font doesn’t support the glyphs. Also, it may not be available on somedevices running ChromeOS Flex. Therefore, such devices could still use Roboto as the default font.
