Microsoft has recently caused a stir among its Xbox users, as the company apparently removed the option to use Rewards points for Game Pass auto-renewals. However, after consideration, it seems that the Redmond-based tech giant backtracked its decision: this featured favorite will not disappear.

So, what happened? After some noise and misunderstanding, Microsoft explained the situation. As seen on Reddit, the first message to Xbox owners implied a big change – ending the lesser-priced Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass auto-redeem subscription.

Here’s the full text:

Your Game Pass auto-redeem subscription is being discontinued.Important changes are coming to the auto-redeem functionality for your Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription. As of 8/12/2024, you will no longer be allowed to use your Rewards points to fund your Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscriptions. If you’d like to elect another service to use Rewards points for auto-redemption, please visit the Rewards catalog. Available options:

This created a reaction, as was expected. However, a new message came with an update: while the current auto-renewal points plan is closing down,it’s not completely over. Gamers must adjust to become accustomed to new auto-renewal setups because of the changes in pricing for PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

You might ask, “What does this imply for my points?” Here is the situation: Auto-renewal of PC Game Pass will soon require 7,750 Microsoft Reward points, compared to the earlier 6,750. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership will require 12,000 points instead of the current rate of 10,500 points for each month’s renewal. The new change has most likely occurred due to the recentincrease in prices of the Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.

Microsoft’s first failure to explain these modifications made things more puzzling, but all doubts have been clarified. However, sometimes, it serves as an excellent reminder that we must watch out for updates from our preferred tech giants because confusion can sometimes happen.
