Microsoft Edge is a solid browser, and Microsoft is constantly working on making it even better with various updates.

Speaking of which, the new version of Edge has just hit the stable channel and it’s available to everyone, so let’s see what this version has to offer.

According toMicrosoft’s release notes, the new version of Edge is here, and it brings security updates from the Chromium project.

In addition, it also brings fixes for the following Edge vulnerabilities: CVE-2024-29986, CVE-2024-29987, and CVE-2024-29991. These are low-risk vulnerabilities, but it’s still great to see that Microsoft has patched them.

The update brings various new features, and most of them are related to Microsoft Edge management services, including the following:

With these features, administrators will be able to receive email notifications if a user requests an extension.

Admins will also be able to manage AI-related policies and customize their organization’s branding.

This version also brings an improved Edge Profile account re-authentication dialog if the SSO fails. Web SQL support is removed, following the changes in the Chromium project.

Cross-device Search Query History suggestionsare now available allowing you to see the same search suggestion if you have Edge Sync enabled.

Profile management and customization controls have been improved with the introduction of additional avatars.

Speaking of profiles, the First Run Experience has been improved encouraging users to sign in and create meaningful profiles.

Edge will now also show notifications on Edge updates in the Browser Essentials instead of the Settings page, thus improving visibility.

Lastly, this update introduced CopilotPageContext and CopilotCDPPageContext policies that will allow Copilot to access browser context. As a result, the DiscoverPageContextEnabled policy was removed.

This update is mostly aimed at business users, but personal users can benefit from it thanks to the improved security.

In other news, theEdge Search bar on Windows 11 now supports Google, which is a welcome addition. As for upcoming features,Microsoft Edge’s Magnify Imagewill now use AI to improve image quality even more.
