We know for a while now that Discord dropped their support for their Windows 7 and 8 client on 15 March. However, they still had the directdistro download linkon their website, as we’ve learned from one of thelatest X postsof Bob Pony.
Discord alsoannounceda while ago that they are are also deprecating their client for all 32-bit Windows systems, hinting at the Windows 10 users who are still using the 32-bit version on July 15.
The last version of the Discord client for Windows 7, Windows 8.0, and Windows 8.1 will no longer be available for download from Discord’s website on June 15, 2024. Also, the last version of the 32-bit (x86) Discord client for Windows will be removed on July 15, 2024.Here’s the…pic.twitter.com/Tg0VadsjsJ
What will happen on June 15 with Discord?
You’re wondering what’s the big deal, right? Well, past June 15, Discord will get rid of the download links for the Windows 7/8/8.1 clients and after July 15, the links for the Windows 32-bit clients will vanish as well.
So, if you’re running Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11, you have nothing to worry about. However, if you’re still, for some reason, hung up on Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or Windows 10 32-bit, download the installer now and keep it safely if you still want to use Discord after a reinstall or some other issue.
The problem is that even if you will still be able to use the software, you won’t get any updates and the app will be vulnerable to who knows what attacks some hackers are planning right now.
Better more, you should think about upgrading to at least a 64-bit version of Windows 10 to enjoy the latest updates from Discord. If you want to know if you’re on a 32-bit or a 64 bit Windows 10 OS, press Win + I to start the System Settings and look for System Type. There, you will see what type of version you have.
What are your thoughts about Discord discontinuing the download links for the old Windows versions? Let us know in the comments below.
