Google is reportedly working on adding Spatial Audio feature toChromeOSallowing users to enjoy a more immersive listening experience. If you are unaware of Spatial Audio, allow us to explain a bit.

Usually many smartphones and wireless earbuds these days come with a Spatial Audio feature to offer an immersive sound experience while enjoying favorite playlist, movies, or games. Not to forget, there are a few devices out there that also support head-tracking. This allows you to enjoy truly immersive audio as you move your head.

Now it seems Spatial Audio could make its way to ChromeOS. According to thelatest report by 9to5Google, the company is working towards enhancing entertainment options on Chromebooks by adding Spatial Audio. The publication managed tospot a new code changewhich points out towards the feature. As with the new features, it is currently locked behind an option in thechrome://flag.

When an user enables it, the new toggle option for Spatial Audio appears on the Audio page of the Settings app in Chromebook. Users can enable or disable the Spartial Audio feature using the same toggle in Chromebooks powered by ChromeOS. This means Chromebook users will be able to enjoy the Spatial Audio feature in compatible earbuds down the line.

Worth noting that the Spatial Audio feature in ChromeOS is work in progress and is far from being ready. 9to5Google further adds that the feature isn’t even available in the latest ChromeOS Canary channel. However, the publication managed to showcase the toggle on where and how it would look via an screenshot which it calls an altered mockup . You can check it out below.

As we write, there’s no exact information on how Spatial Audio would work in ChromeOS. However, one can imagine how the feature would work based on what how it works on Android devices. It is possible that Spatial Audio on ChromeOS could work with Bluetooth as well as wired earphones offering immersive audio.

All that said, the official rollout date for the Spatial Audio feature in ChromeOS is unknown as we write. However, the feature could land in Chromebooks later this year.
