Azure Backup now supports backing up Azure virtual machines with private endpoints enabled. The update applies to both standard and enhanced backup policies.

According tothe official changelog, users can specify network access settings for restored disks, choosing between the same configuration as source, specific network access, or public access.

The new Azure Backup capability is now in public preview. However, for now, it’s only available for backed-up VMs that use private endpoint-enabled disks.

The settings can be chosen every time users start a new recovery process, and the three options are suitable for a variety of situations: for instance, some disks might contain sensitive information, in which case private access is recommended.

Microsoft has used Azure Backup for a variety of tasks, over the years. Some while ago, the platform also supportedWindows 7, 8, and 8.1, and it would allow up to 50 machines to register for it. Now it’s mainly used to restore Azure Virtual Machine data in the Azure portal.
