As promised, ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) hasfinally unveiled the full specs of ROG Ally Xtoday. For the uninitiated,ASUS teased ROG Ally Xwith an announcement video on May 9, 2024, and promised that it would reveal detailed specs on June 2. Now we have all the details that you were impatiently looking for.

For starters, the new Windows 11 gaming handheld packsdouble the battery capacityof the original ROG Ally. Besides, it comes with increased 24GB RAM and 1TB SSD storage. As far as the color of the casing is concerned, you will find this gaming handheld in black color as opposed to the original ROG Ally’s white body.

Early reports are in line with today’s announcement as ROG Ally X packs an AMD Z1 Extreme processor under the hood. However, it is priced at $100 more than the original ROG Ally we saw in 2023. Although the ROG Ally X is a new model of ROG Ally and isn’t the next-gen ROG Ally 2, it comes with seriously improved features.

The display specs of the ROG Ally X are similar to the original Ally. It still flaunts similar a 7-inch 120Hz FHD display with a 16:9 aspect ratio with AMD Freesync Premium support. While you are not getting the goodness of OLED, the screen still is pretty good for gaming.

Talking of other specs, the ROG Ally X offers 80Whr battery life, double of 40Whr that you get with the original one. On paper, this does look good, but you still want to wait for test results to be out there before you get too excited.

The ROG Ally X comes with 24GB RAM which is an upgrade over 16GB RAM of ROG Ally. Also, you get roughly double SSD storage of 1TB than the original handheld making it a no-brainer for someone who plays a lot of games.

One thing that troubles most gamers is the generated during the gameplay. Well, worry not. The ROG Ally X now has better thermals than the original model, thanks to the additional vent and 50% thinner fan blades.

ASUS says the panel will be up to 6 degrees Celsius (~42.8 degrees Fahrenheit) cooler with all that combined. In short, this means you can run your games smoothly without worrying about the heating issues.

Talking of design, some minute changes in the ROG Ally X might go unnoticed easily if not told. Well, there are not one but two changes in terms of design. First, the Ally X ditches the XG Mobile connection port for a second USB-C port. You can use the same to plug in any other gaming accessory.

Besides, you can charge the handheld using the other USB-C port with Thunderbolt 4 support. Secondly, you’ll notice that the position of the MicroSD card slot, audio jack, and volume buttons has been changed.

Sadly, you’ll still have to wait for a Hall-Effect joystick since ASUS hasn’t upgraded it this time either. Rather, joysticks are much more durable and rated for 5 million rotation cycles. Besides, Ally X’s D-Pad has been redesigned and now offers an 8-axis wheel to prevent stickiness while performing circulation movements.
